Ipod help - "Use iTunes to restore"

Hi guys, i need your help, especially any Apple operators here.
I have an ipod that keeps looping Use itunes to restore- i restore it, and then the white screen pops up. I have found a page that can guid me to stop this from happening, but it requires that the disk is formatted. The only problem is, it is write protected. I have tried changing the registry value from 1 to 0 that controls the write protect, but it seems my ipod is still locked. No type of formatting can bypass the write protection, I have tried CMD prompt, explorer, and the HP USB Storage Format tool.

Is there a solution to the write protection?
