Question my macbook wont recognize my ipod

PLEASE CAN ANYONE HELP ME!!!!! i recently received an ipod from a friend. It is in windows format and i have a macbook and for some reason when i plug it in to the usb port it will charge but itunes doesnt recognize it nor does it pop up on the desktop could anybody please help me

Which iPod is it?

Follow that if it is one with a clickwheel, then it should come up in iTunes and let you restore.
