New mac, ipod wont transfer apps.

I got a new mac today, backed up all of my files on my external HD including my itunes "mobile application" folder. Tried to drop it into the itunes folder on the new Macbook but nothing shows up. Kinda sucks because "transfer purchases on ipod" only transfers whats on the ipod touch, not what i actually have in my folder.

What is the secret to getting my new itunes to be the same as my old one?

Using the included "Migration Assistant" (in /Applications/Utilities) should help.

This assumes that you, a) still have your old Mac with the iTunes Library on it, or b) have a Time Machine backup of that Mac. Migration Assistant won't see "loose files" or any kind of folder structure that is not part of (a) or (b) -- so if you simply dragged-and-dropped your iTunes Library folder to the external hard drive, that won't work.
