Porting Files From Imac Os9 to Powerbook Os10.3

This problem relates mostly to old Pagemaker files which I want to port from an old computer onto my new one, and then open in InDesign. Whether I use a flash drive or a zip drive they come out as unix executable files, and I can't open them (if I open in Word they come out as garbage).

This has also happened with AppleWorks files.

I noticed on the forum that people were having trouble like this with Windows/OSX and Quark. But that wasn't much direct help.

Thank you for any help you can give me.
Janet
