Older Mac programs no showing up in Clasic 9.2 running under 10.3.9

Good morning,
I recently began transitioning from a PowerTower Pro running system 8.6 to a B&W G3 running system 10.3.9. I have some programs (a family history one in particular: Family History 2.3.1) that is not showing up as a program on the B&W. The program is essentially stand alone, with some support files that just need to be in the same folder. The program is about 700k, but when I try to copy it over to the G3, it shows up as a zero k file.

I have other system 9 files that are running just fine (Microsoft office files), so I know Classic is working.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Kent

It could be that that program needs to be installed rather than just copied. Do you have the original installer?

Family Record 2.3.1 Install problem on 10.3.9

My mac will not even recognize the install program, even with Classic running. There is no option to say "use the program I am double-clicking" as the application to run. The install disk is dated 1995, so it is fairly old.

Again, when I try to just move the installed program over, a 700k file turns up as a 0k file on my B&W. This is the only program that I consider critical to being able to excess my old PowerTower.

Thanks for your ideas,
Kent13

Can you try creating an archive of the file (either .ZIP or .SIT), then transferring it across the network, and then unzipping/unstuffing the file once it's on the B&W machine?

That was a great idea! I used DropStuff from Stuffit Lite 6.5.1 and created .sit files, and then extracted them using Stuffit Expander 10.0.

I used the same method to bring over the support and data files.

Now, if someone can help me find a way to print from my system 9 programs to an HP printer on the network running Windows XP Pro. I print using the SAMBA option under System 10.3, but that is not an option with system 9.

Thank you again!

Glad to hear getting those files transferred with that method worked.

As far as I know, OS 9 does not support Windows-shared printers. You may be out of luck, as far as I know.

Thursby's DAVE for OS 9 may help -- you may want to contact the developer and inquire as to whether this is possible:
