File Naming Utility Suggestions

Can anyone suggest a good Macintosh utility (for OS 9 or X) that will batch process a collection of files (perhaps thousands), assess each file's type/creator code, and automatically add the correct DOS extension (e.g., .doc) to the filename? Thanks in advance!
