Need OS9.2 on G4 with OS10.4

I need OS 9.2 on my computer to run Mac School 5.0 with the Mac School data sitting on my computer. I have a G4 with OS 10.4. Is it possible and if so how.

Mahalo, Oran

If this is a dual boot machine, just start it. If this is a OSX only machine:

Just install "classic" from your original system disk(s). It's usually on Disc #2, if you have a 2 disc set.

you then must start Classic from the Classic icon in System Preferences.

I don't know if you are asking if you can install OS 9 so that you can run your program in Classic, or if you actually want to be able to startup in OS 9.

Some Macintosh computers start up only in Mac OS X. These computers can run Classic, but they do not start up in Mac OS 9. For which is which, see:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86209

In any case, if OS 9 isn't already installed on your G4, which would mean that you don't have access to the Classic environment, then you can install OS 9 from the Software Restore disk that came with your Macintosh. Hopefully you can run Mac School successfully in Classic.

Thanks Randy for your input.

I printed out your message, as well as, three articles that were linked. I will be going back to school Tuesday to try out a few things that resulted from your input.

On my computer, when you go to apple, system preference, startup disk...the only icons you see is Mac OSX, 10.4 & Network Startup. I don't have a choice of OS9 or Classic.

When you enter the harddrive, system folder, application support...you see Classic & Classic Support. In the harddrive, there is also an Applications folder called applications(macOS9).

When you enter apple, system preferences, and in systems there is a classic Icon....when you click on that icon, you have a choice of "start classic when you login" otherwise, it says, Classic starts up when a classic application is launched.

Mac 5.0 runs great on computers with OS9.2 or OS9.2 with OSX installed on top of OS9. When you have OS10 with classic running in the background, Mac 5.0 doesn't run well.

I am willing to go as far as dumping OS10 and have only OS9.2, if that is possible.

Thanks, Oran

Thank you Gilbert for your response.

Yes, disk 2 has OS9. It looks like OS9 is installed as classic. There is a classic icon and it can be triggered to start at login. For Some reason, Mac School 5.0 does not run well with classic. Mac School 5.0 runs well with OS9.2 and you may have OS10 installed on top of it.

Report Cards are due next week! I really appreciate your input.

Thanks,
Oran

What type of G4 is it? In the "About this Mac" menu item of the Apple menu, what speed does it show? This way, we might tell you whether it's at all possible to boot from an OS 9 drive with that computer.
