| Uninstalling OSX and retreiving OS 9.1 files Hello Any help would be extremely appreciated. I have just installed OSX 1.2 cd on a neighbour's imac G3 which was running OS 9.1. The installation was successful, however, the OS9 startup facility has completely disppeared and I need to go back to OS9 to retreive some files as I have just been told there there are no copies of anything (most importantly some precious baby photos). Is is possible to uninstall OSX or alternatively go back to a point in time i.e. before the installation. The classic startup has gone, and I really don't know what to do. I wasn't expecting this to happen, as a few years ago I carried out the same operation (have same model) and can run OSX and OS 9 simultaneously. Any ideas extremely welcome. Thank you in advance Sophie |

| '... installed OSX 1.2 cd ...' - 'MacOS X 10.1.2' presumed. Based on '... the OS9 startup facility has completely disappeared ...', you (seemed to / may have) performed a MacOS X 'Erase and Install' action, and the files / folders of 'System 9.1' were erased. 'Is is possible to uninstall OSX or alternatively go back to a point in time i.e. before the installation.' - not from your perspective, see the above paragraph. To possibly retrieve non backed up files / folders, review these 'data recovery services'. 'The classic startup has gone, and I really don't know what to do.' - locate the discs provided with the iMac, and then perform the appropriate suggestion of http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106294. Actually, until you gain better understanding of such actions as 'Erase and Install' verses 'Archive and Install', backing up files / folders, etc, it is best to have someone, knowledgeable of the Mac's condition and intentions of the user, to perform such. |
