DVD burning problems for os9

i'm upset. i've been told i can't burn DVDs on my os9 so i'll have to upgrade to osX on my cube. i need help with a few questions please:

1 - do i have to uninstall os9 and install a full osX or can i safely upgrade to osX over the os9?

2 - would it be better to keep my cube with os9 intact and buy a mac mini with osx and internal DVD burner? (i have a serious space problem and only have room for a cube or a mini).

3 - does anyone know any way i can use an external DVD burner with os9 (using for instance a LaCie burner with toast 6 instead of toast 7?)

4 - any other suggestions for burning 30mb photo files to DVD using my os9?

i'd appreciate any help i can get.

#1 You can safely install OS X on the same hard drive as OS 9. The only thing you must check is how much free space is on the cube to make sure there is room for the OS X install and the programs you need. You then can still use your OS 9 apps with Classic.

#2. This is your preference. If you do not have hard drive space, then a mini would be the choice.

#3. Toast 6 is for OS X and Toast 5 works with OS 9, but I am not sure if Toast 5 has the capability to burn a DVD.

#4 30 MB of photos will fit on a CD.

thanx so much for the info cheryl - it's much appreciated. i'll check out the option to upgrade to osx on my cube as i'd prefer this option. if i can add enough memory (512 minimum) it should be ok - if not i'll buy a mac mini.

my cube has worked for 6 years without a single problem so i'm averse to dump it completely - 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' as they say. but even though i may be able to write to cd with os9, i have about 50 30MB scans per submission to burn, so cds may not be an option in the long run.

thanx again for your help.
