| how can i get a new OS 9.0.4? I am currently running OS 7.5.5 and I bought OS 9.0.4 many years ago. I cannot install the OS 9.0.4 because I have deep scratches on the CD. I have the orginal CD and the box. I do not want to pay money to buy a new one. I have taken my CD in for them to clean out the scratches but it was too deep. Are there any advices you can give me? I have a Mac Power PC 6500. |

| There's not much you can do other than purchase a new set of OS 9.0.4 disks. You can try and talk to Apple about it, but I wouldn't go into that conversation expecting them to ship you a new CD set free of charge.

| Go to a store selling Apple products. If you have the CD and box to show, they might create a copy for you. You certainly shouldn't have to buy it again.

| Well first they might just _have_ a copy of 9.0.4 or whatever. They _do_ still support older Macs, right? It's helpful to have the system software around. Or they might have access to a disk image they can burn. Or have contacts who would know what to do. Either way: It's certainly worth a try before trying to find an illegal copy. My _guess_ is that any store a _little_ interested in Macs would be helpful here.

| grey OS cds yeah....so I searched for OS 9.0 on ebay. I see a lot of the gray CDs. I hope you know what I'm talking about. A lot of the gray CDs say something like Imac/OS 9.0 Install http://www.macosx.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1150326439 http://www.macosx.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1150326562 I don't know about this...I don't even know if it's something to try. My old computer model (powerpc 6500) can take up to OS 9.1. If so, why are the gray CDs saying Imac, G4/G5 , but not suituable for my PowerPC 6500? yeah, I'm cheap. Maybe because I paid for the Orginal OS 9.0 years ago. I will definitly check out what apple has to say. I read they don't carry the OS under 9.1 anymore. |
