Indexing In progress... huh?

hello,

I've just successfully installed OS 9.2.1 on a refurbished G3 imac (which came with OSX but not OS9 ) - Thanks Deltamac for the help with that!

Anyway, a window has just appeared saying "Indexing In Progress - time remaining: 100 hours"

It's been like that for the last hour or so... Is it safe to just click "Stop" ?

I dont really want to leave the thing switched on for 100 hours!

You can stop it. You only need to use indexing if you want to use Sherlock's Find By Content feature (which sucks). You can disable indexing in Sherlock's preferences so you'll never get this dialog again.

If you want find-by-content functionality, I would recommend using a third-party program that does NOT use indexing. Searches are slower, but more accurate and flexible, and it doesn't take time to index everything.
