memory

How much memory (RAM) can I put on my old iMac? Thanks! This is probably a dumb question. Oh well.

Depends on the iMac that you have. You can check out the amount of RAM you can install by looking for your Mac here.

Not a dumb question, but a very common one. You missed a lot of information - Which iMac, and which generation of that iMac? There's about 6 different possible types of memory in an 'old iMac'.

Here's an app that you can download, and which will help you decide which iMac you have, and which memory you need.

Another good place to look is at http://apple-history.com/

It covers the specifications for every Apple computer ever released. If you can work out which one yours is (the Apple Menu -> About this Mac... will help there) then look it up on the list, you'll be able to get the full specs for it.
