civ III in 10.5.6

i've been trying to get civ III (macsoft version) up and running on my macbook but keep getting an alert saying:

Drawsprocket cannot switch to the requested resolution (1024x768, 16bit, 1 buffers(s))

i have tried all the resolution options and tried holding down the command and option keys whilst starting it but nothing seems to work. is it true it won't run on an intel processor???? what a bummer.

however when i tried running it on my old ibook with OS9 the same thing happens. what's going on? anyone? i'm a mega novice with computers so simpleton's terms would be appreciated!
