mac OS 9 games don't recognize CD in classic mode

Ok, I finally got Descent 2 for Mac from ebay.
It works fine if I boot into OS9 but when running under MacOSX in classic mode the game complains that the Descent 2 CD isn't present. (but original Cd is inserted...)
The problem also occurs when running other classic games, inluding virtual game station.
And it is really annoying to boot back into OS9 in order to play two or three games.
Mac OSX 10.2 and OS9.2 came preinstalled with my ibook

Strangly I never had the problem with my old clamshell ibook.

Computer:

White Ibook G3 700MHz
'Normal' build in CD drive
384MB RAM

edit: Yep, i also tried creating a image of the CD but the game insists that the CD isn't inserted.

I was having the EXACT problem trying to run Warcraft 2. I tried creating the disk image, but that didnt work. Its very annoying, but I think the only way to play Warcraft 2 (or any other OS 9) game with OS X is you have to reboot in OS 9. I tried getting help for the same problem and this was the only thing that worked. Hopefully there is a better way!
