DOSBox and Command and Conquer optimal speed setting on Mac?

I'm a newbie to this. But I have Dosbox and full version of Command and Conquer original. Only problem is, it's super laggy. I somehow increased the Cpu Cycles of Dosbox to say "max" (instead of the default 3000 i think it was). I read somewhere to increase the Frameskip by ctrl-f7 or f8. Problem is: that doesn't work. Neither does holding fn+ctrl+f7 or f8. Increasing the Cpu Cycles didn't really do much, nor does making the screen small vs. full screen.

Any suggestions on how to make this game run smoother? And how do I adjust the settings?

Otherwise, amazing flashback to 1995.

Thanks.
