| Mail Server & Tiger Hello, does anyone know an easy to set up and WORKING mail system for Tiger? I am using IpSwitch Imail, on my Win Servers, and I would really like to find something similar (complete and easy user interface, reliable) for TIGER. I tried to set up the mail server using Tiger built-in mail services, but they are pretty "crappy", not easy to set up (as a matter of fact I am still struggling with it) and so far... not working. I also have to say that my experience is limited on MAC servers. As an alternative (I didn't see any decent system like Imail for MAC and probably I will not find one)... is there some MAC server Tiger expert in the NJ/NEWARK area that could help me with the set up? Thank you |

| I haven't had much trouble with Tiger mail, but, of course, YMMV. There are lots of alternatives, depending on price and need. Things like Zimbra, Open X-change, Kerio, Communigate, etc. I used to live in NJ, that count? ![]() |

| I'm using the built in services in Tiger Server 10.4.3 on my Xserve. It,s fantastic. I downloaded the Demo of Kerio and it looked excellent but stuck with Tiger because it's there already. took me a day or to to configure it (including Squirrelmail Webmail) and I'm very happy with the results. Sadly I'm not in NJ...I'm In the UK

| Yeah, I haven't had much trouble running a live Tiger Mail server or Panther before it. I think the only downtime I had on either platform was due to network or power outtage. ![]() The UK...hmmm...is that in South Jersey? ![]() |

| Thank you guys, I wish it was running in a few minutes. I was using the server admin/mail to do the set up. I am not sure, but I think that there are some user/right issues. For example setting up Imap For example when I try to use in IMAP reconstruct -i at the end I get the error: couldn't open partition: /var/spool/imap/user and if I check there... the partition does not exist. do I have to create it? Isn't it supposed to create itself? Also I read about the new "intelligent permission system" that doesn't allow inheriting of permissions in subfolders but sometimes I cannot create folders even as a admin user on the drives... Is it supposed to be like this or it's my server that behaves strangely? It was an installation "out of the box" from Apple. Maybe I should just zero erase the drives and re-install the system software? I am posting also the postconfig file: always_bcc = command_directory = /usr/sbin config_directory = /etc/postfix content_filter = smtp-amavis:[127.0.0.1]:10024 daemon_directory = /usr/libexec/postfix debug_peer_level = 2 enable_server_options = yes html_directory = no inet_interfaces = localhost local_recipient_maps = proxy:unix asswd.byname $alias_mapsluser_relay = mail_owner = postfix mailbox_size_limit = 0 mailbox_transport = cyrus mailq_path = /usr/bin/mailq manpage_directory = /usr/share/man message_size_limit = 10485760 mydomain = presma.com mydomain_fallback = localhost myhostname = mail.presma.com mynetworks = 127.0.0.1/32,xxx.xx.xxx.xx/xx mynetworks_style = host newaliases_path = /usr/bin/newaliases queue_directory = /private/var/spool/postfix readme_directory = /usr/share/doc/postfix relayhost = sample_directory = /usr/share/doc/postfix/examples sendmail_path = /usr/sbin/sendmail setgid_group = postdrop smtpd_pw_server_security_options = login,plain,cram-md5 smtpd_recipient_restrictions = permit_sasl_authenticated,permit_mynetworks,reject_unauth_destination,permit smtpd_sasl_auth_enable = yes smtpd_tls_key_file = smtpd_use_pw_server = yes unknown_local_recipient_reject_code = 550 virtual_mailbox_domains = hash:/etc/postfix/virtual_domains virtual_transport = lmtp:unix:/var/imap/socket/lmtp |

See document 107996 on the Apple site “www.apple.com/support”. A script made byu myself to transfer mail between systems: mv /var/imap /var/imap.old mkdir /var/imap /usr/bin/cyrus/tools/mkimap chown -R cyrusimap:mail /var/imap chown -R cyrusimap:mail /var/spool/imap sudo -u cyrusimap /usr/bin/cyrus/bin/reconstruct -i sudo -u cyrusimap /usr/bin/cyrus/bin/cyrus-quota -f This should make it working from scratch. Normally the correct files will be on your systems after the server installation. Good luck, Kees |
