Mail server

hi,

i try to configure a mail server with smtp and imap.(mac os x 10.4)

local:
i have set a mx record for the server
domain name is xserver.macintosh.org

net:
on my provider the mx record is set to my public address

don't why it doesn't work and don't understand everything clearly.
when an user is created like "test", the user address test@macintosh.org is created automatically? and the mail server translate that in test@netdomain.us?

it's new ... lol

If you've entered an IP-number then that's very probably the problem. Don't ever enter an IP-number in a MX-record but use a fully qualified domain name.

Who does create the 'test@macintosh.org" and who does the translation to "test@netdomain.org".

In ServerAdmin you specify domain names for the incoming mail and this is a little tricky, because specify only the last part (thus macintosh.org) also as hostname.

I never encountered translations of email accounts by the mailserver.

Good luck, Kees
