| Registered To and Main User
Hi there I've just had OS X Server installed on my server and the numpty who set it up filled in my name wrong, completely the wrong surname. I know this seems like a minor issue but it's just another one of those things I'd like to be right. I can access my server through 'root' 'Local Administrator' and 'iainmorrison' but not one of them will allow me to change the details of 'iainmorrison' For the most part I will login via 'root' though I really would like the main account on the machine to be 'spadge' instead of 'iainmorrison'. I've also just checked through all the tabs of the Server Admin pane and it appears that 'Iain Morrison' also appears in the 'Registered to' box which I really want to change but again, can't, the changes simply revert as soon as I click Save or move to another tab. I know it's a little pedantic but when you have £700 of software on £2000 worth of server it's kinda nice for things to be right without stupid little mistakes like this. Is there any way I can fix this without having to get the guy who set it up to go back to the datacentre and start the installation from scratch? Many thanks, Spadge |

Hi 'Iain' ![]() Welcome! You could use this kb to change your username - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1428 - it should be the same on Mac OS X client and Server. |

Thanks for that. Seemed to work for the most part except I couldn't add Spadge to Server Admin so have reverted changes for now. Any ideas how to change who the software is registered to as that will be my biggest concern when I come to upgrade? |

You can give a quick call to your local AppleCare number, and explain them the typo - they can make sure it's registered correctly. But one letter typo - should still be recognizeable if you'd ever have to call them. If your email is correct, you should show correct.

Hmmm, bit more than one letter, pretty much every letter infact |

Yep. Explain what happened to it, and if they want proof have the proof of purchase ready, or if it was ordered directly from Apple, the order numbers. If it was direct from Apple and not shipped to Morrison then that should be pretty automatically ok worst case they would want to have the proof of ownership if it was third party. For a normal consumer computer that isn't as relevant, but for a server and its support it will make it worthwhile to have it corrected. Pick Xserve from the product line list while on the phone queue so you can get to the correct line. (Or Mac OS X Server if it was installed on a Mac Pro). Should be roughly the same phone queue in the UK lines than it's on the US lines. |
