It'd be a perfect mail application if it the replies came from the email account it checks - I have several email accounts that I have to check individually (I'm using a pre-commercial version of Eudora Lite) and Mail.app can check different accounts but as far as I can tell replies to emails all appear to come from one main account, instead of from the email account they were sent to.

I can't agree that mail is so good.. the Interface is very confusing and breaks a great number of user expectations. Here's a few major problems:

    - No option to turn off panes and see messages in separate windows
    - double-clicking message brings up reply (usual is to open in separate window)
    - single account sending (as noted)
    - saving as draft and making occasional saves creates multiple copies of messages!
    - Saving in to be delivered doesn't send on connection
    - No simple option to queue mail until connection
    - No apparent way of adding addresses from received mail to address book (though they seem to add themselves..)
    - No proper mail forwarding

I can't understand how Apple got this app so wrong in fact. I was really hoping this'd be the simple elegant app I've been waiting for so long. Still struggling to find a replacement for Emailer 2.0...

    Mail totally sucks.

    *can't recover from being disconnected

    *no threading

    *intolerant of slow connections

*can't delete items without receiving them

    *no multiple personalities

Needless to say it's absolutely useless for modem users.

I also hope the next version stores passwords securely using CDSA or keychain.

The real irony is that Emailer 2.0 and the mail function of Cyberdog were such great apps. How can Apple just throw away two great products and then just dump this make-do mailer on us?

I never really used Cyberdog, but Emailer 2.0 was my mail client until I started with OS X PB. Emailer really is a fantastic application, which behaves exactly as one expects. Does anyone know what happened to the code? I believe Apple own it - is that the case?

I'm hoping that BareBones will port Mailsmith. PowerMail is now in beta for OS X an dmight be worth checking out. Anyone have any recommendations?

There really is a need for a simple elegant mail app that integrates with OS X. Mail.app isn't it. Apple should look at how they integrated message transport on Newton. With UNIX underneath they really could do this. Mail (at least the transport protocols) should be part of the OS. Any app should be able to mail.
