Vcd

Are you missing VCD playback in OS X ?
Well, I do and I don't know why they don't get it on the road. Okay, they want you to use the SuperDrive and do DVDs. Still, there are many VCDs out there. why not support them. It's really starting to piss me off.
What do y'all think ?

I second that. Allthough I seem to be the only person alive who doesn't get the "input/output"-error when manually opening the MPEG 1 stream on some VCDs...then again, I get the error with most VCDs, but not with all....

There are different ways:

1) If you have luck, you can open the AVSEQ.DAT in Quicktime, but under OS X, you often get an Input/Output Error

2) Demux them with any app like bbDemux, WITHOUT actually demuxing them, just converting them....takes time, and I also got I/O errors with this.

Best way is to switch to OS 9 or try using the classic Quicktime player in classic environment, sometimes also works

I am unhappy with that too... The ratio of DVDs and VCDs collection I have is 1:10! I always have to switch back into Mac OS 9 for watching VCDs... I hate to do this...

I personally think that OS X file system cannot handle VCD correctly... I hope it could be fixed soon...

handling it

yeah, seems like OS X doesn't support VCD format. As for converting, I think that's a pain. I used to use MacVCD in Classic which worked just fine. Again, I'm wondering if they leave it out on purpose. I hope not.

Yea... seems that OS X cannot read the CD in VCD format... I always heard some strange noise when I tried to read VCDs in OS X.
