Angry Mail.app became a folder

Something I did (it may have been dragging Mail.app from the dock into the trash) has caused my Mail.app to become a folder.

In other words, /Applications/Mail.app appears in the finder as a generic folder icon. If I double click the icon, it opens a folder showing Contents. However, I can still launch Mail.app by clicking a mailto: link or from the address book.

How can I restore the Mail.app icon?
