"You cannot write to this disc" - any disc!

I have a Que!USB 4x4x8 external cd burner and I downloaded the OS X drivers here: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macos...drwdriver.html
They seem to be the right ones because the drive reads/mounts cd's just fine. The problem is burning with Toast, iTunes, or Disk Copy. All 3 tell me that the disc I want to burn - whether it's a blank cdr or a blank cdrw - is that the disc is not writable. On Toast, when I try to erase a blank cdrw, it reminds me that you can only erase cdrw or dvdrw media. Yet when I boot into OS 9 and open up Toast, I can burn cd's *perfectly*, just as well as I used when I didn't have OS X. So I know it's not the brand of cd's or a wacky burner because I *can* burn and mount cd's with it.

I use Toast 5.1.3 in both OS 9 and X. The problem is only in X.

Anyone have any ideas? Any help is appreciated!

Do you have administrative access in OS X?
