Question determining correct iMac LCD color setup

I have a new G4 iMac and I am not particularly happy with the default "LCD Display" color sync profile, it just looks too washed out for me. I've tried creating new profiles with both no gamma and a PC/TV gamma of 2.2 and they look better but still not quite true to life.
Any graphics professionals care to share their LCD color sync profile settings with me? How do I determine that the settings I pick are correct color-wise?

With the CRT iMac I could simply go through a step-by-step Color Sync process to adjust the color, brightness and contrast but with the LCD display it appears I need to do it by eye instead.
