Apple Quicktime MPEG4 and DVD Players

Anyone know of any information of DVD Player manufacturers adopting technology to play disc encoded in MPEG4 and AAC audio?

I think some DVD players you could get could play DIVX encoded discs just wondering if there was going to be an MPEG-4 counterpart.

Just doing a little research before I buy a new DVD player.

And what format would they take, special setup like DVD and it's VOB's or regular track setup like VCD?
