    How loud are new towers?

    I'm considering either a DP 867 or the 17" iMac for home, but I'm a stickler for low noise levels as I'll be doing music production.

    This thread proposes that the new towers are LOUD.

    Does anyone have similar or different experiences?

    Anything louder than the original G4 towers (450/500 range) is too loud in my book.

    What? What did you say? I can't hear you over my Athelon's fans...

    We have the DP sittin on a table next to mine, and there are PCs all over - one under my desk, and two others beside the Mac... and I can't tell which one is which really... But the Mac seems to be quieter - donno what the noice leve is compared to a 450/500 tho...

    What it is is this monster fan it has inside that looks to be easily replacable with a quiet one of the same size - just make sure it pushes a LOT of air...

    But I make no gurantees and don't hold my word for it - I wouldn't want to try it myself...
    I'm not around here (much) anymore...
