Epson TWAIN drivers OSX 10.2

Running OS 10.2 on a dual G4/867, 768 megs ram....epson 1250 scanner with the twain drivers...

Looking at my process viewer, it seems that TWAINbridge is always using 3-13% of the CPU, even if its just sitting there doing nothing....anyone else confirm this problem? Anything I can do about it and keep the scanner alive? Seems like a waste to me....
