Safari and Quicktime

Now that I've upgraded to 10.4.1, when I try to play a song by clicking on
it at eg the NPR website the song appears to download and Quicktime
opens it but then nothing happens. Any solution? Or how do I change
the player Safari uses to play downloaded music?
