Carbon Copy Cloner and external firewire hdd

Hi -
I picked up a new external 80 gb firewire drive last night and wanted to clone my hard drive before upgrading my ibook to Jaguar from OSX 10.1.5. I was able to successfully clone and boot the the external drive using CCC, then had the bright idea that it might be better to partition the external drive. So I reformatted the drive and split it into 3 partitions and began cloning my drive to one of the new partitions. However, when I tried cloning the drive CCC hangs about 3/4 of the way though...just freezes up. I thought that perhaps the partitions were creating the problem, so I re-formated the external fw drive with 1 partition...still no luck CCC hangs about 3/4 of the way through. Has anyone experienced this? Would PsyncX be a solution? Any advice would be greatly appriciated.
Thanks.

Just a quick follow up - I was able to clone my drive using psyncX (found via version tracker) and all is well now...
