| 10.0 install won't work - there is a reason I'm doing this I'm selling my G4 450 (getting a new one) and since I'm not selling my 10.2 disks with it (you don't get the full 10.2 with a new machine - just a restore disk). I'm trying to install on a freshly partitioned internal drive with my 10.0 disk (then use my 10.1 upgrade disk and run all the updates), but when I boot with the 10.0 CD I get all kinds of bizzare lines of text on the start up screen. It just won't work. I'm wondering if my firmware is too new? Is installing 10.0 history for me, or is there some other problem? I was hoping to have the machine all up to 10.1.5 for the sale - that way the buyer can have some system disks and choose to buy 10.2 if they want to. Or am I completely nuts - will the restore disk I get with a new machine be all I need until Apple makes me buy 10.3 in 9 months or whatever? |

| I have the SAME problem! I can't install 10.0 on my machine either, which I needed to do because all of my other cds are through up-to-date and need an existing OS X to install on, which means should i ever need to reformat and install, i'm out of luck... I have been unable to figure out why this is, as was apple tech support...

| Well if Apple tech support can't figure it out, we are all in big trouble! Seriously, thanks unlearnthetruth, it's good to know I'm not alone! I was beginning to feel I was cursed or something (it has been a bad computer week). So, you didn't buy Jaguar? It seems like you almost have to now I guess. Do you or anybody else know anything about the disks that come with new G4 powermacs? Should I just give away my 10.2 disks when I sell my machine? |

| the disks with the new g4 powermacs are the full 10.2 jaguar installers. it also comes with 9.2. they are grey software restore disks that work as fully functional install disks. |

This problem really annoys me though, now that I have both 10.1 and 10.2 as upgrades, I need a 10.0 foundation and I can't seem to get one... bothersome ![]()

| boi - once again, you come to the rescue - I am off this weekened to buy my new G4 - all because of you! I guess I will just throw in 10.2 when I sell my other machine - makes me happy that I can add value to the sale! unlearn - how did you get 10.2 as an upgrade? I thought it only came in one version - the full one. |

| Honestly, since you will have two licenses for 10.2 you can LEGALY burn a copy of the 10.2 CD's. You first bought one license seperately, now you're getting one with the new computer. If it does come with upgrade CD's tell the buyer what you are doing and burn him a copy of the full install 10.2 CD's, you keep the originals. |

| wasn't there a fairly simple trick for making a full install CD from an upgrade only CD? Need a burner of course. IIRC, you can make a disk image, and then delete one file from the image (called something like "checkforoldosxinstall.sh"), and burn a copy of that new image.
