Question interesting finder desktop bug...

when you shift icons off to the left of the screen all the icons on the right slowly get moved off the screen unill you can only just see them. It is impossible to set an icon half off screen on the left side of the desktop.

It also seems that some icons get locked in place and become part of the desktop. ie: you can't select them or move them at all.

Anyone else have this??

only way to get rid of false icons is to restart the finder. Curious.

It seems as if moving the icon off to the left part of the screen actually causes the other icons to become part of the desktop.

I just tested this on my TiBook.

I had four icons, each of them could be selected and opened.
I moved one of those icons to the left part of the screen.
The three remaining icons that were living on the right side of the screen were pushed off to the right.

After this I could not select any of the three icons but the fourth icon (the icon I used to test the shift) was fine.

As a side note, I could select the fourth and hit the tab button. After hitting tab once I could hit command+o and the file (or directory) of the original three icons would open fine. I had no idea what icon was selected, but it worked.

odd...

Okay... and I found a fix....

-Click on the desktop...
-Press command+a (select all)
-Grab the icon that actually works and drag it.
-The other 'locked' icons should flash and move with it.

Or you could always move these items to the trash with the key command command+shift+delete.

From the trash you can drag them back to the desktop.

This option will not work for mounted volumes, as they will disconnect... but at least you won't have to restart the finder.

elander will become famous soon enough
Another solution

Open a Finder window as columns. Navigate to your Home folder, and click on the Desktop Folder. Select the files there, move them to another folder and back to the desktop.
