Mail Running On Tiger

I have just installed Tiger on my G4 powerbook and then updated it : 10.4.2

Whenever Mail tries to access my email accounts (on different servers in different countries), it quits. (It is only when there are new messages - confirmed by me accessing accounts over the web - that Mail quits)

Whenever i opened Mail, it asked me did i want to go with the old settings or submit new ones.

I hit the wrong button just now and cannot access my mail boxes: almost every item in the menus is disabled because the programme is waiting for me to enter account info.


1st Q how do i get back to my old Mail settings?

2nd Q: how do i prevent Mail from quitting every time it finds new messages in my email accounts?
