Imac Won't Boot

I did the downloaded/installed the recent ipod update and let it restart my computer. Now it halts at this screen:

Of course I can't tell what that's supposed to be. I can't get it to boot in to verbose or safe mode, I can't get it to boot from cd either. I can start it in target mode.

Using my powerbook, I repaired permissions on my imac, but still no good.

Both machines are on 10.2. The only thing I can think of doing is to backup my imac drive and then mirror my powerbook drive on to the imac.

Any suggestions?
