Help! Caps-lock always on with wierd chars

Hello,
Suddenly, this is what happens to my powerbook:

1. boots with caps on
2. caps stays on even if i click on it
3. sometimes, it goes off, then comes back on automatically
4. if i have the cursor in a text area (say the location bar of the browser), and then the caps comes on, it types '4vd'
5. whenever the caps comes, the volume control image on the screen displays and then vanishes
6. i have noticed that some other keys also get remapped to display other chars.

i have no clue why this is happening. my powerbook has been taken over!
please help!

Sounds very strange. All I can think of is go to your International preference pane and check that it's set to English (US) for your keyboard then give it another go.
