Superdrive

I have a G4 powerbook that had a 1x DVD writer. This stopped accepting disks DVD & CD so I thought it was goosed so I bought a replacement 8x superdrive (Pioneer) i fitted this, had to leave out the plastic bit in front of the drive entry as the slots wern't quite in the right place, but it still ejects disks as soon as I insert them. any ideas?
