    Switching from AIM to .mac

I'm thinking about using my .mac account instead of my AIM account to chat with friends. Other than having to tell everyone that I'm switching are there any problems with doing so.

For example, has anyone experienced any trouble with friends not being able to see their online status while using a .mac account, or other things of this nature?

Are there any benefits to using a .mac account instead of AIM? Or vice versa?

    Thanks

I did a search on this topic and I was able to find some information... mainly people saying that they could not see their PC buddies or the other way around.

It seemed like having the latest version of AIM on the PC worked. Has anyone heard of any updates on this front?

This info seemed like it might be a bit old.
