software to monitor network connections on jaguar?

hello...

as a relatively new user to macs, i was wondering if there is any
software available which can determine if any computer has logged
onto to another computer either via airport or other means?

does anyone know of such a program?

Do you mean, attempting to log into your machine? If so you can take alook at "netstat" from the terminal.

Do you mean, attempting to log into your machine? If so you can take alook at "netstat" from the terminal. You can see login sessions, attempts.

"last" will give you login sessions also.

You can also look in /var/log and look at "ftp.log"

These tools are usefull as they will give you and idea of what you want before buying anything.

Lightbulb

Also, any network-activity-monitor GUI Aqua utility can help you on that. I personally use 'Net Monitor', it is highly customizable.

Those utils tell you of the general in/out network activity. For example, if someone is uploading to your machine you will see a spike of inbound traffic. Net Monitor has the capability of monitoring several interfaces: ethernet, PPP...

It's free as well.

(PS: if you dig, you'll discover that the UNIX part of MacOSX eases the development of many such utils, which are *very* useful)
