Panther Install Freezes

Well I'm new to the world of macs. I just bought a mac mini and was upgrading to tiger and set it to do a clean install. But I didn't realize it said it had to have a previous version installed. So now all it would do is keep coming up saying the system needs rebooting. Anyway now I'm trying to reload panther and after the language pick it comes up to reading packages and freezes after like 30 seconds.

Welcome to MacOSX.
I am assuming you are using the reinstall cd/dvd that came with the mini? It could be that the actual CD/DVD is damaged. If so, is there a Apple store in your area, I believe they will replace it.
