Creating beats

I'm want to start creating my own beats, I'm a novice and have never tried this before, I've got Garageband but wondered if their is anything out there better but still simple enough for beginners?

Yep. Garageband is Logic for beginners. Not much sense in using anything else - unless you want to go Logic Express or Logic.
