Shared Library Error

when i try to open any microsoft office application for eg. excel it shows this error message

The application "Excel" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "/<Microsoft Excel><Microsoft Excel><CarbonLib><>"

how do i fix this?

The only thing I've seen that corrects this problem is reinstalling the system.
