Invalid leaf record

Getting repetitive red error "Invalid leaf record count (should be 2 instead of 8)" when running Disc First Aid from install disc (3 runs). Reinstalled OS 10.4 with archived folder, same error message. Trashed folder, same error message.

Disc first aid fixed other problems, and trucated Photoshop files and kernal panic freezes have not reoccurred.

Since disc first aid doesn't correct the invalid leaf record count and I can't even find what a leaf record is ... any roadmap to a solution?

Dual 2GHz G5, 1.5GB DDR SDRAM, OS 10.4, LaCie 250 GB External HD, Radeon 9600 PRO, Boot ROM version5.0.7f0

Only three ways to repair this problem
1-Run FSCK - may fix
2-DiskWarrior - may be able to fix
3-Reformat the drive.
