iMovie & Sony DVD camcorder

I am new to the Mac. (well, at least since I had an SE30 and a Powerbook 140 some 15 years ago). I'm switching back. I just bought an iMac g5. My question is regarding getting my clips from my Sony DVD camcorder (DCR-DVD201) into iMovie. I have just come to realize that this is probably not a good match. Has anyone found a way to use this camcorder other than using an AV adapter. I do have access to a PC that can bring the clips in, but then there is the issue of the files being mpeg 2. Does anyone have a good solution or am I going to have to use an adapter (this is not a good choice for me). Thanks in advance for any advice.
