OS 10.4.3 Finder keeps closing and opening???

I am using 10.4.3 on a G5. I have run the disk utilities and the hardware test to no avail. The finder keeps opening and closing continually which makes writing this post a drawn out process as it keeps opening over the app that's open. All icons on my desktop have disappeared and I cannot access any files other than through any apps that are in my dock. So even if I could erase and reinstall, I can't backup my files!

Anyone experienced this? Any luck?

No worries, figured it out with the help of one of the guys here. For future reference, if your Finder isn't functioning properly, access the account through another account and clear-up things like your library and cache. Then, log back on and all will be coolio... hopefully. You can add back the items gradually to determine the trouble-maker. Thanks to the guys here for your help!

I had that happen once when I had UNO (which applies the unified look to all applications) installed. Got rid of it, got rid of the problem.

Do you know what exactly it was that caused the problem for you?

Not yet but it is none of the Apple apps or my Quark or Adobe CS. I have a feeling it may have been Konfabulator or a game, CivIII... or another not-so-necessary app!

The beauty is that each time I open an app, it rebuilds it's own library preferences so it will be easy to isolate.
