vCards: From FileMaker to iPod.

Hello

I have been trying to get my contacts to my iPod. They are in FileMaker Pro 6 and i can't find a way to make them to vCards or a format that Adress Book can read to export them as vCards form it.

I tried downloading a couple of shareware utilities and didn't help either.

Any help on this would be apreciated.

Good Day
Asimis

Because FileMaker is a stickler you might need to manually enter in Address book, then export them to the iPod.

Do you have MacLinkPlus? I wonder if that can convert them to the address book? Or into text so that you can create vCards.

If you have MS Excel, you can use the FileMaker plugin to extract the address data into a spreadsheet, then save as a tab-delimited file, which I believe can be imported into Address book.

You may also be able to create a 'digestible' file directly from FileMaker with the File/Export command.

Tried the Excel thingy, it din't work. Adress Book can only import vCards and LDIF files. Not sure what the later is.

Anyway thanks for the help.

Well, if you have Excel, you presumably also have Entourage. So you could:

1 - export from FMP to a tab-delimted file
2 - import the tab-delimited file to Entourage
(File/Import/Text file...)
3- export the contacts from Entourage as vCards by dragging them from the Entourage Address Book window directly into a Finder folder window.
4 - import the vCards into Address Book

Let me know if it works!!

Hello brianleahy

Thanks for the tip, I think this way it should work . I will try to do it tomorrow because I don't have the file or FileMaker at home.

Good Day
