Excel 2004: Error Accessing System Registry

I tried doing a search for this issue within the forums, but no luck. Here is the issue:

I am running Excel 2004 with Mac OS X 10.4.3.

Every time- without fail- when opening an Excel file, I get the following error message:

"Error Accessing System Registry"

On some files, I merely have to re-open the file. On others, I am never able to open it. Those that appear to not open seem to be those files that are macro-heavy.

Additionally, I get error messages in Word that Visual Basic for Application is not installed- possible relationship?

I'm not sure what changes in the Mac caused this issue.

Has Excel ever launched properly for you on this computer? If it did, what did you do just before the problems started? If Excel has never launched properly, then it is likely that you made a serious mistake when you installed it. To it properly, reinsert the distribution CD. Bring the root level of the CD to the forefront by double-clicking on the CD's icon on the Desktop. Drag the Office (or Excel) folder icon to the /Applications/ folder. You will have to delete your previous installation, but be sure that you don't have any of your own files in the old folder.

Did you ever find a resolution to this problem? I tried reinstalling to no avail. Its a strange problem that just started last week on my laptop. I am a heavy user of excel so I am stumpped here..
