    MAC OS 10.3.9/ENTOURAGE 10.0.0

I have been using entourage for the last three months. I have been experiencing problems lately in the following way:

Sent mail: large empty areas in the list of sent items. If you click in that area, emails appear. If you click on those emails again, they disappear. After two or three "clicks" it quits.

I have about 20 project folders and I try to save mail into them until I have finished a project. At the moment, if I click on a mail and drag it into a folder I get an error message (error 4362). From then on, it just doesn't do anything, won't open an email or send an email. If I quit and restart the software, it will work again, but still won't allow me to put emails into folders.

I thought perhaps the software had become corrupt and decided I'd reinstall it. But you don't seem to be able to install over an existing file, it just says you already have the software and don't need to do it.

I've thought of deleting the software and reinstalling, but I'm terrified of losing all my emails and address book.

Any advice you can give would be gratefully received - but please don't use long, scary words :-)

    Backup and rebuild

    Donna,

it sounds like you have typical database corruption. Backup your Microsoft User Data folder (in your Documents Folder--make a copy) and then launch Entourage with the option key down. Choose "Advanced Rebuild" and go have a beverage. When it's done, you're mailboxes should be improved.

    Error 4362 in Entourage X

The action could not be completed. An unknown error (4362) occurred.

When you try to use Microsoft Entourage X to send or to receive e-mail, you receive this error message: Error 4362. The solution is typically resolved by performing a typical or advanced rebuild of the database file.

Sometimes this error indicates a problem Entourage is having with the Microsoft Database Daemon. Quit the daemon

Then go to System preferences/Startup Items and remove any entries of the database daemon from the 'login items' window. Now start up Entourage again and hopefully the problem will have been resolved.

Note: Some users reported this error when clicking on a corrupt email. 4362 is not the usual error for a corrupt message. If deleting the message does not solve the problem, try a rebuild. If this is your problem, then try the following:

Go to View menu/Preview Pane, or press command-\, to turn the Preview Pane off. Now when he click on the message, you will be able to delete it. If this is a POP account and a local folder, then go to Tools/Run Schedule/Empty Deleted Items Items Folder. If it is an IMAP account set up with its own Deleted Items Folder, quit Entourage so it will get purged, or if set up to "mark for deletion" press command-K to connect to the account to purge it.

Entourage version number "10.0.0" almost screams for a software update. Try www.microsoft.com/mac for downloads...
