whacky thought - was it recently part of a network? it could be looking fo9r its server.
Hi all,
I have a new 15" powerbook. When I login, it hangs for about 1.5 mins after I enter my password. Also, it exhibits the same behavior if I go to system prefs and authenticate, as I would to change my lpgin options, etc... Same if I log out and back in again.
Also, Software update fails to work -it too hangs for about 5-7 mins and eventually just completes.
Also, repairing permissions would hang at the library/widgets/ NEW etc... and not do anything
Here's what I've done thus far:
1) fsck -fy -all checked out normal
2) Ran Onyx -this seems to have corrected the permissions thing -they complete now saying they've been reapired
3) Deleted font cache and login cahe
4) Created a new user, results in the behavior/same issues as above
5) Tried to start up off the OS DVD -Ths freezes the system. I used my dvd, as opposed to the one that came with the computer (Ididn't have it with me)
Other than the above, the computer seems to function properly. Does anyone have any insiht? I'd hate to have to reinstall the whole OS. If anyone can help, I'd be eternally grateful...
Thanks in advance,
Jon

it was part of a network -at work where I use this and where it was set up. I didn't notice the issues there, only at home where I use this too for work,
Is there a way to correct this?
Thanks,
Jon
try looking in start up items - shut down apple talk - shut down file sharing. some of those might do it.
Thanks for your reply... I truly appreciate it.
I did what you've suggested... to no avail. Software update still hangs too... the progress bar goes about an 1/8 of the way and just sits there... doing nothing.
I'm at a complete loss...
i'm not the brightest bulb on the christmas tree but i'd pursue this a bit more. i had exactly the same symptoms when my ibook was away from the imac sharing. it would hang for a long time looking for it.
try checking servers in your system folder
Thank You very much,
I'll do as you've suggested.
Cheers!
Jon
Whatever the problem is, it's system wide, not just your user.4) Created a new user, results in the behavior/same issues as above
Maybe an Archive and Install.
