Tell Me What Icon This Is, Please

I accidentally deleted this icon and forgetting what the name of the icon is, I couldn't find it. Please do tell what the name of the icon is BEFORE the TRASH. Thanks.

If that icon were a snake, it would have bitten you 5 times over. The name that's displayed above that icon is the name of the application: Mail. Check in Applications or use the Find function to see where it's located. If anything, you can always reinstall the application from the Software Restore CDs.

What's the point of this icon anyway? Why is it different from Safari?

safari opens on the user-determined homepage. this is just an example of what the other side of the dock can do, including holding drives, folders, media, documents, files, weblinks etc. it could be any weblink.
