Tiger install problem on imac dv se

Up till now I have had zero problems install 10.4.3 on my older imacs.
But now the install works perfectly then reboots and when it get's to where the music starts playing and that swirly mac stuff should be seen, all I can see is a gray screen and hear the loud music playing. Eventually the music subsides as it would during any install, but still I don't see anything but gray screen.

Just in case anyone asks... I do have the latest rom 4.19....
I haved tried a programmers reset, a pram reset (option apple p r)
But to no avail....

Could this be bad vram??
Or something with the Imac dv se 's 128 rage video??
