    Clear off my mac

How do I clear off my mac computer? I just want to start all over because I have been downloading lots of things and my [download application] won't work and my mail wont work so I just want to start all over. Do I just put the mac osx 10.4.4 in my computer and it erases everything that I had. I dont care about saving anything I just want a clean slate.

Don't do an archive and install if you really want to start from scratch.

If you want / need a clean install of the system, backup the data that you need, and then from the OS X Install DVD, select "Erase and Install" as installation type. That is the only that is really clean. (but you'll have to install your applications and data back later)

this is quite drastic. talk us through some of the specific problems you are having, it may be something very minor, and very fixable.

with a mac, Complete Reinstallation of the System is possibly the last resort. there is no spyware or virii or deep system level trouble that can happen, so it's very often completely superficial and very easily fixed.
