15" Powerbook won't boot

All of a sudden my powerbook won't boot. It starts ok, with the startup chime and message "Starting Mac OS X" dialog box then nothing. No icons, no HDD icon, no dock. I restarted from the Tiger disk and ran disk utility to repair the disk; it noted no problems. I ran disk permissions; lots of issues with widgets, but according to the finishing wording, all issues were resolved. Yet when I boot, it does nothing. Any help would be appreciated.

Hmm. See if you can boot up in verbose mode, or safe mode. Try verbose first. See here for info on boot key sequences if you haven't done this before.

Verbose mode should show you a black screen with the system log spitting out in white type. If it hangs somewhere, post the last few lines (or all of it, if it's short) and we'll see if the community can figure out what's happening.

I think I've solved the problem. Unbeknownst to me, my wife had loaded Turbotax. I got into safe mode and trashed Turbotax; it's working correctly now. Thanks for the help.
